Lied • Ah, noble Prometheus

eenstemmig · mythologie / legende · Engels · eenstemmig · 11-12 jaar
Ah, noble Prometheus, he sacrficed to much for us.
For all of eternity he must remain chained to this rock in sun or rain.
Every foul morning the eagle swoops down to ravage his body and cause him great pain.
Every evening his body heals, only repeat this terrible or-deal.
A lofty gift he gave to us all, a gift, alas, that caused his downfall.
He angered great Zeus, who could not abide the danger of men rising near to his side.
’T was fire held forth in his hand. It lit up the earth and shone across the land
so that man might rise from humble beginnings. Praise to Prometheus, man is singing!

Lied • In the Quest of the holy Grail (1)

SAB · mythologie / legende · Engels · meerstemmig (gemengde stemmen) · 13+ jaar
In the Quest of the holy Grail do we wander from land to land,
in our duty we shall not fail, if in God's light we stand.
But if falsehood and doubting in the heart hold sway,
then is banished from the soul the light of day.

Lied • Fairest isle

eenstemmig · mythologie / legende · Engels · eenstemmig · 11-12 jaar
1.
Fairest isle, all isles excelling,
seat of pleasure and of love,
Venus here will choose her dwelling,
and forsake her Cyprian grove.
Cupid from his fav'rite nation care
and envy will remove;
that poisons passion, and despair
that dies for love.
2.
Gentle murmurs, sweet complaining,
sighs that blow the fire of love,
soft repulses, kind disdaining,
shall be all the pains you prove.
Ev'ry swain shall pay his duty,
grateful ev'ry nymph shall prove;
and as these excel in beauty,
those shall be renown'd for love.

1.
My love has gone to Avalon, the winter here's too cold's,
As vanquished kings from fields of fog did in their days of old's.
As she moves through, shimming climbs and views the ancient stones.
I stand here on my hill alone, here on my hill alone,
here on my hill alone, here on my hill.
2.
I did as much as I could do to bind my love to stay.
From Lowthian to Tennt o'Jells, a long and weary way.
No wanted Celt am I to bind her fancy to my own.
I stand here on my hill alone, here on my hill alone,
here on my hill alone, here on my hill.
3.
My city stands full in the gaze, a proud and emty shell.
A ruined chapel mocks the view above a baron well.
And I see breeze from Greenland's coast to nice the futile son.
I stand here on my hill alone, here on my hill alone,
here on my hill alone, here on my hill.
4.
Perhaps I'll go to Westmorland, where hills are not so high,
or make my way to Anglia, where Lowland bustles ly.
No darkened towns, no place of rest for one who's sore wi'd shine.
I stand here on my hill alone, here on my hill alone,
here on my hill alone, here on my hill.
