When first the sun breaks through the shades of night,
and streaks the faroff western hill with light.
Restoring nature to the wond’ring sight.
Then colour comes, the plains their liv’ries wear,
returning verdure clothes the smiling year.
The blooming flowers appear in op’ning pride.
The varying landscape shows its thousand dyes;
the barren cliffs with chalky fronts arise,
and a pure azure arches o’er the skies.
